Qualifications
Joe Funderburk is the owner of Alpha & Omega Home Inspections, LLC.  There are no employees or sub-contractors--you hire me and you get me. I'm a Certified Master Inspector, NC Licensed Home Inspector, SC Licensed Home Inspector, Certified Mold Inspector, Certified Indoor Air Consultant, member of  the National Association of Certified Home Inspectors, member of the Piedmont Association of Home Inspectors. I've totaled more than 1900 inspections and completed countless hours of training in seven years as a home inspector, including NC required annual training. I recently completed building my own 1800 SF house addition.

Experience
I am currently employed as the Building Official / Code Enforcement Officer for the town of Clover, SC.  Previous careers include four years as an Occupational Safety & Health Administration (OSHA) Compliance Officer inspecting the construction industry in SC.  OSHA ingrained in me a detective-like mindset, along with thoroughness, documentation and report writing skills that are the main assets I bring to the home inspection industry. While with OSHA, I inspected a major hydro-electric project being built by Duke Power Company, and they hired me. I spent the following eleven years in the electric utility industry with Duke Power in managerial and scientific positions, including Safety Supervisor at nuclear, fossil, and hydro plants, where I was responsible for safety inspections at large-scale construction and maintenance projects in NC & SC.

Education
My educational background includes two university Bachelor degrees from Clemson University and Winthrop University.

Customer Satisfaction
(
Don't take our word for it...Read client testimonials!)
There's never been a lawsuit or threat of one. The only dissatisfied customer was a lady who thought a squirrel in her attic 8 months after the inspection was my fault. Why have all (but one) been extremely satisfied? Because I spend as much time as necessary at the home and do a great job. See my sample reports.

All Home Inspectors Are Not The Same!

Read this! Trying to save $25 or $50 could lead to a $200,000 mistake!

All Realtors Are Not The Same!

Is your Realtor looking after your best interests? Some have extremely 'cozy' relationships with the home inspector they recommend. Some don't. All Realtors fall into one of two categories:

  1. This agent will steer you to a professional, highly qualified, thorough and unbiased home inspector. This agent is looking after your best interests. They do not want you to get stuck with a problem home.

  2. This agent will steer you to an inspector that goes easy on the reports, is in and out of the house before the dishwasher finishes running, whips the report out in the driveway, and doesn't "kill the deal". This inspector is catering solely to the Realtor in an effort gain future referrals and income. This inspector has few satisfied clients, but many satisfied Realtors. This inspector has probably been sued a few times, after the problems with the house have revealed themselves. This type of Realtor wants nothing more than to collect their check at the closing table. If they ever encounter a "deal killer" home inspector, they quickly move on to the next softie they can manipulate with the promise of future referrals.

Which type of agent is representing you? If they are Cat. 1, they probably referred me to you. If they are category 2, they probably dislike me and you should therefore hire me!

Our Promise

Choosing the right home inspector can be difficult. Unlike most professionals, you probably will not get to meet me until after you hire me. Furthermore, different inspectors have varying qualifications, equipment, experience, reporting methods, and yes, different pricing. One thing for sure is that a home inspection requires work, a lot of work. Ultimately a thorough inspection depends heavily on the individual inspector's own effort. If you honor me by permitting me to inspect your new home, I guarantee that I will give you my very best effort. This I promise you.
